At the invitation of the Finnish Young Women’s Christian Association the Committee had its first meeting of the year in the capital of Finland. It was the first meeting of the committee after it was enlarged in the course of 2008. With 21 members the committee is now more representative of the broad range of churches and organisations that participate in the Forum. For the list of members click here. Major items on the agenda of the Helsinki meeting were the Three – Year Plan of activities and Budget for the period 2009 – 2011 and the future of the GCF Secretariat including the search for a new secretary. The Plan and Budget as approved by committee reflect the new phase of consolidation and progress which the Forum process has entered after the Limuru gathering of November 2007 and the evaluations. It will culminate in a new global Forum event scheduled for late 2011. The implementation of this plan requires a strengthening of the operational capacity of the Secretariat for which the present administrative budget is not sufficient. The committee decided to undertake a serious effort of additional fundraising. It reviewed very carefully the process of appointing a new secretary and considered provisions for interim solutions if needed. Among other matters the committee dealt with were the approval of the 2008 financial reports, the publication of a book on the Limuru global Forum gathering and detailed planning of the activities that will be implemented in 2009. The latter include a team visit to the Middle East, a regional leadership meeting in Europe and a regional meeting in Africa.
